Disaster supply kit
Prepare your supply kit and have it easily accessible in case of power failure or the need to suddenly evacuate your home. Consult these two sites for help preparing your supply kit:
The Red Cross
The City of Tallahassee
Important documents
Scan all your important documents and upload them to a cloud service to have them stored and available in case they get destroyed or lost.
Trees
If a tree near your house is in poor condition AND on the right of way, you can contact the city through DigiTally and they will assess it. Signs to look for on trees near your house:
- mushroom or fungus growing near the base
- Dead limbs and/or branches
- Leaning tree with crack on ground
- Splitting tree trunk
Before a storm (if we are under a warning) you can:
- Take photos of your home inside and outside in case you need to submit an insurance claim (so you’ll have “before” photos)
- If you don’t have storm shutters, board up windows with plywood
- Bring all furniture, tools, gardening equipment, etc inside so they don’t become projectiles
